Fashion trends in bollywood

The Bollywood industry has always been a source of inspiration when it comes to fashion. With nearly every Bollywood movie, came a style trend that was followed blindly by the star-struck fans. Although most of these trends have vanished with time, some are still remembered for their ‘then popularity’.
Anarkali suits are still favoured by many and the list includes top Bollywood actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif, kareena kapoor and so on.

The birth of this trend dates back to 1960s from Madhubala in Mughal-E-Azam.
Madhubala's amazing beige and red embellished costume in the song "Jab pyaar kiya to darna kya" became a fashion statement for Indian women across ages. The costume Madhubala had worn is now famously addressed as the anarkali style and is the current rage with everybody, from homemakers to bollywood celebrities, wearing it.

Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit's flamboyant picks have always made an impression, but nothing till now could beat the popularity of her "Didi tera devar diwana" outfit though.

The diva dazzled in a purple satin sari with a backless blouse in the song which later became a rage in wedding circles and also remains etched in our memories as a reminder of her evergreen appeal.

Rekha in Umrao Jaan
Stunning Rekha is memorable in this pearl-hued brocade dress. The mujra look from Umrao Jaan has been replicated by several heroines since then.

Even Aishwarya has copied the looks of Rekha from Umrao jaan and she looks stunning and elegant in the remake of umrao jaan.

Mumtaz in Brahmachari
Mumtaz style sarees came in vogue after the pretty diva flaunted it in the famous song "Aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke cherche". You can see Sonam kapoor following the same trend in this orange color saree and looking graceful.

We encounter a new series of fashion every other season, all inspired by Indian movies. So, we weren’t aware of the bright printed sarees till Katrina Kaif brought them to limelight, making them popular everywhere–right from the high street to the college campus and everywhere in between.

The history of the fashionable trends or rather the changing trends of fashion in the Bollywood Hindi cinema date back almost to the decades of the 60s till the current phase of the year 2013. And it was in the earlier time zone of time spanning the last four decades of the last millennium that popular star pairs like Dilip Kumar-Madhubala, Rajendra Kumar-Mala Sinha, RajKumar-Meena Kumari, Sunil Dutt-Sadhana, Joy Mukherjee-Asha Parekh, and above all Raj Kapoor-Nargis had played a key role in evolving a fashion conscious trendy style of their own, which in the long-run had literally turned out to be a trendsetter of that particular era.
